Carla Brock (Billings and Accounts Receivable Coordinator)

Education: Undergraduate Studies, Eastern Kentucky University

Experience: Since 2003, Carla has served as Billings and Accounts Receivable Coordinator for HLO. She is responsible for: reviewing, processing, and auditing all time allocations relating to billings; preparing, processing, and mailing invoices to clients; and processing all payments received from and credited to client accounts.

Between 2001 and 2003, Carla worked as a Claims Examiner for Claim Services, LLC. There, she worked as a third-party administrator catering to self-insured companies.


Nicole Modica (Legal Assistant / Incoming File Coordinator)

Education: Undergraduate Studies, University of Kentucky; Lexington, KY.

Experience: Since 2003, Nicole has served as Legal Assistant and Incoming File Coordinator for HLO. She is responsible for reviewing, processing, and analyzing incoming files, as well as performing a number of other legal and clerical duties.

Between 2001 and 2003, Nicole worked as a Claims Examiner for Claim Services, LLC.


Megan Thacker (Litigation Paralegal)

Education: Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies (2012), Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY; Bachelor in Business Administration (2010), University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY; Associates Degree in Science (2008), Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Lexington, KY.

Experience: Since 2012, Megan has served as a Paralegal for HLO. Prior to that time, she worked as the firm’s Legal Assistant. She is responsible for coordinating the development of medical and lay proof for workers’ compensation and Federal black lung claims, maintaining and improving the file systems, assisting attorneys as they prepare for depositions and hearings, and helping clients with information regarding cases.


Greta Strait (Managing Paralegal)

Education: BA in Paralegal Studies (1991), Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky.

Experience: Since January 2002, Greta has served as Managing Paralegal for HLO. She coordinates the development of medical and lay proof for workers’ compensation and Federal black lung claims, assists attorneys as they prepare for depositions and hearings, maintains attorney calendars for scheduled appearances and deadlines, and assists clients with information regarding cases.

Between 1998 and 2001, Greta worked at Stoll, Keenon & Park. In her role there, she coordinated proof development and depositions for five attorneys, prepared all associated documents, and maintained case journals.

In 1997, Greta worked at the Department of Workers’ Claims. In that capacity, she was responsible for issuing the Opinions and Orders of Administrative Law Judges and maintaining Administrative Law Judge dockets and files.
